Almazy Anabara (Diamonds of Anabar), a part of ALROSA Group, found a 236-ct rough diamond of intense yellow-brown color. The diamond was extracted from the Ebelyakh mine in Yakutia, Russia. This is the largest natural color rough diamond ever found in Russia. The diamond’s dimensions are 47x24x22 mm, and, according to preliminary estimates, it is 120-230 million years old.
The Ebelyakh placer diamond deposit of JSC Almazy Anabara, located on the right tributary of the Anabar river, is part of the Leno-Anabar diamondiferous subprovince and together with other deposits located in the North-West of Yakutia, serves as a stable source of large diamonds of unique fantasy colors.
Among placers of Quaternary age, the undisputed world leader in diamond content is the placer of Ebelyakh river. On this placer, a high level of diamond content is typical for both channel and terrace alluvium. The indigenous source of diamonds from this region is similar to the kimberlites of the Arkhangelsk diamond-bearing subprovince, the pipes of Venezuela (Guanyamo) and Botswana (Orapa). It is established that the mechanical wear of Ebelyakh type diamonds decreases in the North-East direction, which opens the prospects for the discovery of new large diamonds of fantasy colors in the area of the deposits that ALMAR is developing.
