JSC “Almazy Anabara”, a subsidiary of ALROSA, has started to perform geological exploration at the license areas of Khatystakhsky and Beenchime of LLC “Arctic Mining Company”, which develops diamond deposits in the Arctic zone of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) under the brand “ALMAR – Arctic diamonds”.
Exploration works are carried out under a contract within the framework of geological projects and technical specifications, which provide for the transition from small – volume testing, which was carried out by ALMAR in 2017-2020, to gross testing in 2021-2022. Exploration activities include mining and processing operations, which will allow the company to obtain the sample volumes necessary to confirm the forecast conditions and put reserves on the balance sheet of ALMAR.
“In accordance with the development strategy of ALMAR, which provides for the self-sufficiency of the company, we planned to carry out all the work independently and laid in the production plans all the necessary volumes of equipment and personnel. However, the coronavirus pandemic forced us to change our plans, as a result of which we have connected Almazy Anabara, which have been conducting geological exploration at both ALMAR deposts since March 2021, ” said Andrey Karkhu, ALMAR General Director.
“The use of the contractor’s resources allowed us to postpone the purchase of machinery and equipment to the stage of production organization, following the placement of stocks on the balance sheet of the enterprise, when financing will become more accessible and cheaper at the expense of balance sheets. So it will let us to attract financing for the purchase of mining and processing equipment on a production scale, ” said Andrey Novikov, Deputy General Director for Commerce at ALMAR.
“The choice of the contractor is obvious, Almazy Anabara JSC is the only company that mines rough diamonds in the ALMAR operating region, it has all the necessary resources and over more than 20 years of history has accumulated great expertise in geological exploration and mining of diamonds in the Arctic,” Andrey Karkhu stressed.
Joint-Stock Company “Almazy Anabara” is one of the largest enterprises of the mining industry of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) mining about 5 million carats of rough diamonds per year, which is about 13% of the total production of ALROSA. The company employs 1,300 people. From year to year, the company is developing dynamically, making a worthy contribution to the socio-economic development of the republic.
ALMAR CEO Andrey Karkhu has been directly involved in the development of Almazy Anabara JSC as a chief engineer for 20 years.
